Ironwood voters to consider $12.5 million bond for K-12 school

IRONWOOD, MI— Ironwood Area Schools has a $12.5 million bond proposal on the November 3 ballot.

Superintendent Daniel Martinson says the district needs to upgrade the 102-year-old K-12 building’s boiler and water mains, replace lockers and gym bleachers, and install new security doors.

The proposal is 1.95 mills over 30 years. Martinson says the bond will be a zero-mill net increase over the prior year's levy.

“We have bonds that will be paid off in June of 2027, and we are looking to issue these in two phases: in July of 2027 and then July of 2029. So, 1.95 mills, 12-and-a-half million dollars, but it does not increase anybody’s property tax.”

Martinson says securing the money would allow the district to plan for the future.
