MARQUETTE, MI— Marquette and Munising are getting fast electric vehicle charging stations installed, thanks to grants from the Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy.
The Superior Watershed Partnership received nearly $400,000 through EGLE’s Charge Up Michigan program.
In Marquette, two fast chargers will be installed on Lakeshore Drive near the ore dock. SWP Special Projects Coordinator Kathleen Henry says the chargers will be a win for the environment and the city itself.
“The SWP and our project partners, including the Innovate Marquette SmartZone and the Downtown Development Authority, we are hoping to see projects that further clean energy and also support sustainable economic development.”
The City of Munising is getting three fast chargers: two at City Hall and one at the Alger County Courthouse.
The devices will be able to charge a vehicle in as little as 30 minutes.
There’s no timeline for installation of the chargers, but Henry says it will be soon.
