Marquette Township Supervisor says Township Hall will eventually be powered by solar panels

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI— Marquette Township is installing solar panels at its Town Hall.

Township Supervisor Lyn Durant says the panels will produce around 20 kilowatts of electricity—enough to power daily operations.

“We’ll basically have electricity for nothing, you know, if you look at it that way. That it’ll pay for itself.”

The Township Board approved an agreement Wednesday with the Marquette Board of Light and Power to direct any unused power back into the grid.

Durant says officials also wanted to expand the township ordinance to allow residents to install solar equipment without having to go through the Planning Commission.

The panels should be up and running within the next couple of months.
