UPPCO makes plans to achieve 100% renewable energy by 2040

MARQUETTE, MI— Upper Peninsula Power Company is embarking on a path to deliver 100 percent renewable and clean energy to its customers by 2040.

The state requires electric utilities to achieve an energy mix that contains 60 percent renewable energy by 2035 and 100 percent five years later.

UPPCO says it’s collaborating with Enel X Advisory Services, a company that develops sustainable energy strategies, to launch a competitive Request for Proposal process to change the region’s energy landscape.

Officials say it will hold customer engagement opportunities this fall as the company prepares for its next Integrated Resource Plan.
