Planned power outage to take place next week

BARAGA COUNTY, MI— Parts of the western Upper Peninsula will be without electricity for a few hours next week as ATC replaces aging power poles.

The outage is planned to begin Wednesday, October 23 at 6 p.m. and may last until 6 a.m. on Thursday, October 24. It will enable crews to replace four electric poles on a 69,000-volt power line to avoid potential unplanned power outages during the winter. The Warden power line runs about 10 miles from north central Baraga Township to the village of L’Anse.

The outage will impact some customers and members served by UPPCO, L’Anse Utilities, Ontonagon REA and Baraga Utilities. Those utilities plan to communicate directly with their customers and members about the outage.
