EGLE gives Dickinson County grants to encourage renewable energy projects

DICKINSON COUNTY, MI— Dickinson County municipalities are getting state grants to assist in building solar arrays in the region.

Thursday, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy announced the first round of grants from the Renewables Ready Communities Awards. The grants aim to accelerate the buildout of large-scale renewable energy projects, like wind, solar, and storage, by providing flexible incentives to local units of government that permit and host the projects.

Groveland Mine Solar is placing ground-mounted arrays on lands that include portions of the decommissioned Groveland Mine.

Felch Township is getting $141,000 in RRCA grants; Norway Township will receive $252,500; and Sagola Township is getting $106,500.

The grants provide funds for communities to make improvements and offer additional services to their residents.
