UP townships get Renewables Ready Communities Awards

LANSING, MI— Three municipalities in the U.P. are getting state grants for their large-scale renewable energy projects.

Administered by the Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy, half of each Renewables Ready Communities Award is disbursed upon the start of project construction and the other half upon start of operation. 

A grant of $133,225 is headed to Ewing Township in Marquette County for hosting 26.65 MW of a solar project under construction. Its expected operation date is June 2026.

Baldwin Township in Delta County is getting $105,095 for hosting 42.03 MW of a solar project. Its expected operation date is June 2026.  

And $78,295 is going to Maple Ridge Township in Delta County for hosting 31.32 MW of a solar project with an expected operation date of June 2026.

All three projects are under construction by Renegade Solar.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
