Changes made to this year's Midnight Run sled dog race

MARQUETTE, MI--   One of next weekend’s sled dog races is changing its starting location and time.

The Midnight Run is an eight-dog, 90-mile race that will launch from downtown Marquette 30 minutes after the last UP 200 team has left the chute.  Racers will run 51 miles to Chatham, where there’s a mandatory layover.

The later start time will prevent Midnight Run teams from running into UP 200 mushers, and it will also bring the finishers into Munising between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Many more volunteers are needed because of the race change.  Officials say people are wanted for every job.  To volunteer, call 906-942-7850.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
