Pride Fest takes over Tourist Park

MARQUETTE, MI--   Marquette’s Tourist Park was the site of the 2nd Annual Pride Fest over the weekend.

Upper Peninsula Rainbow Pride hosted the Saturday event, which celebrated people who are LGBTQ or any other orientation.

A pride rally was held at the Marquette Commons Saturday morning, followed by a walk to Tourist Park.

The event featured vendors, music, belly dancers, and drag shows until 11 p.m.

Pride Fest co-chair Pam Johnson said the event was even more special this year because of the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize gay marriage in the U.S.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
