ST. IGNACE, MI-- It’s less than a week until the annual Mackinac Bridge Walk, and officials are reminding residents about some changes.
The bridge will again be closed to regular traffic from 6:30 a.m. until noon on Labor Day. This year, however, walkers can start from either end of the bridge. That eliminates the need for buses taking participants from Mackinaw City to St. Ignace.
Walkers now have three main options. They can start at either end, walk to the midpoint, and return; walk the entire length of the bridge and get their own transportation back to the starting point; or walk the entire length, turn around, and walk back to where they started. In the last two options participants must reach the midpoint by 10 a.m. or be turned back.
The walk begins Monday at 7 a.m. No one will be allowed to start after 11:30 a.m.
