ST. IGNACE, MI-- Officials have announced yet another casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic – this year’s Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk.
The Mackinac Bridge Authority voted unanimously Wednesday to suspend the event due to the coronavirus threat. Officials say while September is months away, the walk requires months of planning and early expenditures and they had to make a decision now.
Board Chair Patrick Gleason says the MBA can’t hold an event that draws people from across Michigan and beyond and puts them shoulder-to-shoulder for hours when medical advice strenuously advises against such gatherings.
