Labor Day Bridge Walk headed by Lt. Governor, Marquette County sheriff

ST. IGNACE, MI— Marquette County Sheriff Greg Zyburt led around 26,000 people across the Mackinac Bridge in this year’s Labor Day Bridge Walk.

He joined Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist, Michigan Supreme Court Justice Richard Bernstein, and Detroit Fire Chief James Harris on the span over the Straits of Mackinac.

The event started from both St. Ignace and Mackinaw City, eliminating the need for busing. Gilchrist wore a Negaunee Miners T-shirt.

The bridge walk has been an annual event since 1958, with the exception of 2020, when it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s walk was the 64th event.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
