UP partners to review new statewide housing plan

MARQUETTE, MI— The Michigan State Housing Development Authority is holding three meetings in the U.P. this week to kick off the Michigan Statewide Housing Plan.

It addresses challenges to finding affordable, attainable housing through

Five statewide housing targets, eight priority areas, 37 goals, and 134 suggested strategies for addressing the goals.

Partner organizations from U.P. will receive an overview of the plan and its priorities, work collaboratively to determine which of the priority areas are most important to the regions, and start laying the groundwork for the formation of a formal Regional Housing Partnership.

The meetings will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Finnish American Heritage Center in Hancock, Thursday at 1 p.m. at NMU’s Northern Center, and Friday at 9 a.m. at the Cisler Center at Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
