Labor Day bridge walk just a few weeks away

Mackinac Bridge Authority

ST. IGNACE, MI— The Mackinac Bridge Walk is just around the corner.

This year marks the 65th time pedestrians will be allowed to cross the span over the Straits of Mackinac.

As in the past few years, walkers have three options when it comes to the Labor Day event: they may start from either end, reach the middle and return to their starting point; start from either end and walk the entire span; or start from either end, walk the entire length, then turn around and walk back to their starting point.

The bridge will again be closed to public traffic during the walk, from 6:30 a.m. to noon on September 4th. Emergency vehicles will still be permitted to cross the bridge, but no public vehicles until the walk concludes and participants are off the bridge.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
