Marquette Marathon launches Saturday morning

MARQUETTE, MI— The City of Marquette will host a slew of runners this weekend as the annual Marquette Marathon and Half Marathon take place Saturday morning.

Both races begin west of the city limits and enter Marquette via the Iron Ore Heritage Trail. Runners will proceed toward McClellan Avenue, then continue along the multi-use path to Lakeshore Boulevard.

Full marathoners will go south on the path to a turnaround point at South Beach Park, run around Presque Isle, then return towards Pine Street to finish at the Superior Dome.

Half marathoners will turn south on the multi-use path for a short distance, turn around, and run to the Dome.

Weekend events also include a 5k on Saturday and kid’s fun run on Friday.

Several roads will be closed or have road crossing volunteers. Drivers are urged to use caution in the race areas and obey all road crossing attendants.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
