30 thousand participate in Mackinac Bridge Walk

Michigan Department of Transportation

ST. IGNACE, MI— About 30,000 people showed up to walk the Mighty Mac on Labor Day morning.

The Mackinac Bridge Authority says while the crowd wasn’t a record, it’s on the upper end of the range of 21,000-35,000 participants the holiday has had in recent years.

The bridge closed at 6:30 a.m. Monday and reopened at noon. The 2024 Annual Bridge Walk started from both St. Ignace and Mackinaw City, which eliminated the need for busing and offered additional options for walkers.

The bridge walk has been an annual event since 1958, except in 2020, when it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
