Negaunee welcomes Heikki Lunta back Feb. 7-9

NEGAUNEE, MI— The Heikki Lunta Winter Festival returns to Negaunee this weekend.

Friday through Sunday, the snow god will sponsor a number of different events like a snowshoe lantern tour of historic Old Town, U.P. Luge Club public sliding, an ice fishing tournament, and fireworks.

The Negaunee Downtown Development Authority is partnering with the Meijer State Games of Michigan on Friday beginning at 5:45 p.m. for the opening ceremony and Irontown Rail Jam. The games continue Saturday at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. with luge and snow volleyball.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
