Quebec man wins UP200

MARQUETTE COUNTY, MI— UP200 Mushers left downtown Marquette Friday evening to the cheers of people lining Washington Street, and the first team to finish arrived at the Ojibwa Casino Sunday afternoon.

Martin Massicote of Quebec and his eight-dog team completed the 228-mile trail to Grand Marais and back in 25 hours, 19 minutes, 26 seconds. Their average speed was 8.61 miles per hour.

Erin Aili of Minnesota and her ten-dog team finished second. Their time was 26 hours, 21 minutes, 49 seconds at an average speed of 8.27 miles per hour.

And Erin Altemus of Minnesota and her eight-dog team came in third. They finished the course in 26 hours, 49 minutes, 57 seconds. Their average speed was 8.12 miles per hour.
