Possibility of lightning delays Manistique fireworks

MANISTIQUE, MI— The city of Manistique had to postpone its Independence Day fireworks display by a week due to inclement weather.

Manistique Public Safety says last Saturday’s forecast included a possibility of lightning due to a front moving in. That increased the risk of premature detonation of the fireworks.

Representatives from Great Lakes Fireworks, LLC, the Manistique Fourth of July Committee, and Director Tim Russell agreed it wasn’t worth the risk to employees, the Manistique Volunteer Fire Department, or the public to take a chance and move forward with the show.

The new date for the display is Saturday, July 12 at dusk, in conjunction with the 35th Annual Folkfest Celebration.
