MARQUETTE, MI— The United Way of Marquette County is holding a food drive this Friday at Marquette’s Walmart.
The event kicks off the TV6 Canathon while connecting eight local nonprofit organizations with much-needed food, household essentials, and monetary donations. Unlike traditional canned-food drives, this event will also accept fresh and perishable foods, including produce, meat, dairy, and frozen items.
Shoppers can purchase requested items inside Walmart and drop them off with participating organizations outside the store. The drive takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Food insecurity remains a significant challenge in Marquette County, where an estimated 22 percent of residents experience food insecurity and 43 percent of households fall below the ALICE threshold, meaning they struggle to afford basic necessities.
