Garage catches fire in Escanaba

ESCANABA, MI— An Escanaba garage suffered minimal fire damage, thanks to alert neighbors.

The Escanaba Department of Public Safety responded around 2:40 Thursday morning to 2519 South 22nd Street and found the rear section of a garage on fire. A partition wall prevented the fire from spreading and helped officers extinguish it quickly.

Officials say neighbors next to the garage saw smoke coming from the structure and quickly reported it while alerting the owners. Because the fire was detected early, a large portion of the garage and its contents were saved from fire and water damage.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
