Fire damages empty Iron Mountain house

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI— Officials are investigating a fire at a vacant building in Iron Mountain.

Tuesday around 9:40 p.m. the city fire department was dispatched to 408 Fifth Street. Firefighters found flames coming from the first floor of the building containing two apartments.

A search of the structure revealed it had been vacant for a few months.

The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
