Wildfire reported at Isle Royale National Park

ISLE ROYALE NATIONAL PARK, MI— Crews are battling a wildfire on Isle Royale.

Park officials say early in the afternoon on Saturday, employees reported seeing a plume of smoke coming from an apparent wildfire burning in the area of Three Mile campground. Isle Royale firefighters responded to the area and discovered a small fire burning at the junction of the Tobin Harbor trail and Mt. Franklin trail.

Visitors were evacuated from Three Mile and Lane Cove campgrounds and also brought in from the Rock Harbor, Tobin Harbor, Mt. Franklin, and Greenstone Ridge trails for their safety.

Officials say the fire is approximately 10 acres in size.

Trail and campground closures remain in effect.
