Fire erupts in Marquette home's furnace

MARQUETTE, MI— Firefighters were dispatched to a Marquette residence Monday after a furnace filled the house with smoke.

Around 4:30 p.m., firefighters responded to a home on the 700 block of Grove Street and found flames coming out of the furnace. The fire was quickly extinguished and the crew found it hadn’t spread.

They cleared the house of smoke and left the scene at approximately 5:30 p.m. No one was injured.

Assisting at the scene were the Marquette City Police Department, Marquette Township Fire Department, Chocolay Township Fire Department, UPHS Unit-141, the Marquette Board of Light and Power, and Semco Gas.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
