Fire burns through floor of Iron Mountain home

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI— An Iron Mountain house was severely damaged by fire Friday night.

Firefighters were dispatched around 9:15 p.m. to 607 Kent Street and found flames coming from the windows at the front of the home. They pulled a hose through the front door to attack the fire and search for victims.

While attempting to suppress the fire, the crew found a portion of the floor had burned through. They had to exit the building and relocate the hoses.

The fire was under control by 10:45 p.m. and firefighters continued to extinguish hot spots.

No one was at home at the time of the fire, but an elderly woman from a neighboring home was evaluated for smoke inhalation.

The home is uninhabitable because of heavy fire and smoke damage.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
