Fire kills one person in Calumet

CALUMET TOWNSHIP, MI— One person was found dead, following a house fire in Calumet Tuesday night.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched around 9 p.m. to a home on Agent Street in Calumet Township. Deputies found the structure fully engulfed.

One body was found in the house after the flames were extinguished. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.

Officials say foul play is not suspected.

Assisting at the scene were the Calumet Township and Calumet Village Fire Departments, the Laurium Village Fire Department, and Michigan State Police.

The state Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
