Trailer home explodes in Marquette

MARQUETTE, MI— Only minor injuries are reported, after a trailer exploded in Marquette Thursday afternoon.

The Marquette City Fire Department was dispatched just after 3 p.m. to Birch Grove Trailer Park, Lot #60. The structure was fully engulfed when they arrived, but everyone was out of the trailer.

As firefighters attacked the blaze, another crew knocked down flames in an adjacent trailer that caught on fire from the initial blast. That trailer was vacant, and fire was contained to the rear of the structure.

Several neighboring trailers were damaged by the explosion, but no fire was involved in those homes.

SEMCO and the Marquette Board of Light and Power were on the scene to shut off gas and electricity to the affected trailers.

Crews were able to extinguish fire in the exploded trailer within an hour. The resident was treated at the scene for minor burns.

Everyone who was displaced was put up in the Ramada Inn using the Pigs-n-Heat Fire Relief Fund.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation. A Marquette Fire Investigator and Marquette Police Department detective were on the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
