Fire runs through Marquette storage building

MARQUETTE, MI— Fire has damaged a storage unit in Marquette.

The Marquette City Fire Department responded Saturday around 4:40 a.m. to 2120 Sugarloaf Avenue (Superior Mini Storage) on a report a storage unit was fully involved. When crews arrived, a third alarm for additional manpower was struck and utility companies were requested to secure the property. Firefighters found a unit on fire, with extension into the attic of the building and additional storage units.

Incident Command confirmed the accountability of citizens who were working in the storage unit at the time of the fire.

Crews used saws to gain access to all storage units and the fire was brought under control at around 5:20 a.m. Firefighters worked to extinguish hotspots and perform overhaul and salvage. All units cleared the scene at around 6 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. An MFD Fire Investigator and the Marquette Police Department were on the scene.

The Marquette City Fire Department was assisted by the Marquette City Police Department, Marquette Township Fire Department, Chocolay Township Fire Department, UPHS Unit 141, and the Marquette Board of Light and Power.
