Fatal house fire in Marinette County

WAUSAUKEE, WI— One person has died in a Marinette County house fire.

Sheriff’s deputies responded Monday around 9:15 p.m. to a home on Elizabeth Street in the Village of Wausaukee.

The county medical examiner will perform an autopsy to positively identify the victim.

The State Fire Marshal with the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation was called in to help investigate the fire. Its cause is unknown at this time.

Additional agencies assisting at the scene included Wausaukee Fire, Middle Inlet Fire, Wausaukee Rescue, WI Public Service, and Marinette County Dispatch.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
