Man rescued from Manistique house fire dies

MANISTIQUE, MI— A Manistique man has died from injuries sustained in a house fire on Sunday.

Public Safety officers were called just before 2 a.m. to the 200 block of Range Street. When they arrived, 88-year-old Orvill Erickson had been pulled out of the house by neighbors. He had sustained serious burns.

Erickson was taken to Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital, then airlifted to University Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. He succumbed to his injuries early Tuesday morning.

Public Safety and the Michigan State Police Fire Investigation Unit are looking into the cause of the fire.

Officials say there’s no indication of foul play.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
