Firefighters keep propane tank from exploding during Ironwood gas station fire

IRONWOOD, MI— Quick response is being credited with keeping a propane tank from exploding during a fire at an Ironwood gas station Tuesday.

Just before 6 a.m., the Ironwood Public Safety Department was dispatched to the Krist Oil station on Cloverland Drive for a structure fire. The fire was at the rear of the building, near a 500-gallon propane tank and downed power line.

Officers were able to extinguish the flames quickly. Officials say damage was minimized due to their rapid response.

Ironwood residents may see water discoloration from firefighting activities.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
