Unattended debris fire scorches grass, woods in Delta County

WELLS TOWNSHIP, MI— Firefighters were called to battle a grass fire that expanded into a section of woods in Wells Township Thursday.

The Escanaba Department of Public Safety was dispatched around 4:30 p.m. to 4808 Danforth Road. Crews fought the flames in dry and windy conditions for 1.5 hours.

Investigation led officers to an unattended debris fire that had rekindled at a local home.

The Department is reminding residents to check with the Department of Natural Resources online for rules and regulations on burning outdoors.

The Escanaba Township Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
