Smoke from burning dryer fills Escanaba home

ESCANABA, MI— The Escanaba Department of Public Safety was called to a suspected structure fire on South 14th Street Wednesday.

Firefighters arrived around 6:30 p.m. at the 600 block and found the house filling with smoke. It was coming from the basement area.

Officers discovered clothes in a dryer had caught on fire. Flames were contained within the machine and nothing else was damaged.

Public Safety was assisted by the City of Escanaba Electrical Department, DTE Energy, and Rampart EMS.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
