Fire severely damages Iron Mountain house

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI— An Iron Mountain home has been destroyed by fire.

Officials with the Iron Mountain Fire Department were called Wednesday around 3:15 p.m. to a structure on the 800 block of East F Street.

The crew found heavy fire conditions on the first floor. They recalled off-duty personnel and requested the assistance of the Breitung Township Fire Department.

Crews searched the house because one of the residents was unaccounted for, but that individual was later reported safe elsewhere.

The fire was declared under control around 4:20 p.m., but crews continued to find pockets of fire in the ceiling and walls.

No injuries were reported.

Officials say damage is estimated at approximately $40,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
