House explodes and burns down in Marquette Township

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI— Authorities say there were no injuries when a Marquette Township house exploded Tuesday night.

The Marquette Township Fire Department was dispatched just after 6 p.m. to 457 County Road 550. Witnesses say explosions were heard and a double-wide trailer was completely engulfed. The trailer was collapsing as firefighters arrived.

The home and a shed are a total loss.

A dog was slightly burned, but no other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Assisting in the incident were the Chocolay Township, Marquette City, Negaunee Township, and Powell Township fire departments, UPHS EMS, and Marquette County Central Dispatch.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
