Fire damages Ishpeming home

ISHPEMING, MI— No one was injured in a house fire in Ishpeming Saturday.

The City Fire Department responded around 1:35 p.m. to 618 N. Third Street. Crews found light smoke coming from the second floor of the residence. Firefighters found a mattress on fire in one of the home’s bedrooms. It was quickly extinguished.

Officials believe a candle caused the fire.

The house sustained moderate smoke and water damage. No injuries were reported.

The residents are being assisted by the Pigs-n-Heat Fire Relief Fund and the Red Cross.

The Ishpeming Police Department, Negaunee City Fire Department, Marquette County Rescue 131, Marquette County Central Dispatch, SEMCO, and UPPCO assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
