Garage fire injures Manistique man

MANISTIQUE, MI— A Manistique man was seriously burned in a garage fire Monday.

Around 12:20 p.m., members of Manistique Public Safety and the Manistique Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to 418 N. Houghton Avenue for a garage that was on fire. It was detached from the residence and directly behind the home. Firefighters found heavy smoke and flames when they arrived.

The fire was quickly knocked down and contained to the garage. An adult male sustained serious burns in the incident. He was taken to Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital for treatment.

No other injuries were reported.

Assisting at the scene were the Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Michigan State Police, Cloverland Electric, and SEMCO Energy.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
