Names of Ironwood fire victims released

IRONWOOD, MI— Officials have released the names of two people who were killed in an Ironwood house fire last month.

On January 7th, Ironwood Department of Public Safety officers responded to a residence on Greenbush Street and found the home fully engulfed.

Two occupants of the house had succumbed to the fire. They’ve been identified as Jerry Kasieta, 58, and Joseph Kasieta, 81.

Police say the cause of the fire remains undetermined, but no foul play is suspected.

Anyone with information, photos, or videos of the fire is asked to forward the information to Sgt./Fire Marshal Brandon Snyder at snyder@ironwoodmi.gov.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
