Crews fight Manistique house fire--twice

MANISTIQUE, MI— Fire destroyed a home in Manistique Sunday.

Around 3:10 a.m., Manistique Public Safety was dispatched to 429 Delta Avenue. Officers found flames engulfing the rear of the home.

Firefighters’ efforts were split between extinguishing the fire and protecting a neighboring home from the flames, which were pushed southward by high winds.

Crews remained on the scene until about 6:40 a.m., but were called back at 7:20 a.m. when winds reignited hot spots within the debris. Firefighters conducted an extensive overhaul operation to cool all remaining hotspots.

No injuries were reported, but the family’s pets were lost in the fire.

The cause of the blaze is suspected to be a wood stove, which was the primary source of heat for the house.

The residence is considered a total loss.
