Body found after car fire extinguished in Marquette Township

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI— A deceased individual was found in a burned-out vehicle in Marquette Township Friday.

Around 9:50 p.m., the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched on a report of a vehicle fire on County Road 492 near Everly Way. They found the vehicle fully engulfed in a wooded area off of 492.

After the Marquette Township Fire Department extinguished the fire, a single victim was found inside the vehicle.

The name of the victim has not been released, pending positive identification.

Assisting in the incident were Michigan State Police, UPHS EMS, the Marquette County Road Commission, Anttila’s Towing, and Central Dispatch.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
