Iron Mountain fire claims woman's life

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI— A resident died in an Iron Mountain apartment fire Friday night.

Around 10:53 p.m., the Iron Mountain Fire and Police Departments were dispatched to a 10-unit building at 630 East H Street. Crews started an aggressive attack in an attempt to suppress the fire and rescue anyone who was trapped.

Officials say a 46-year-old woman was killed in the fire. Several other residents suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The building is believed to be a total loss.

The Michigan State Police Fire Investigator is at the scene, assisting with the investigation.

Also assisting at the scene were Kingsford Public Safety, the Norway Fire Department, Breitung Township Fire Department, Sagola Fire Department, Aurora Fire Department, Integrity Care EMS, North Alert Ambulance, Iron Mountain DPW, WE Energies, DTE, the American Red Cross, Michigan State Police, and Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials also thank the Midtown Quick Lube, who allowed their facility to be used as a staging area for the Red Cross to assist individuals displaced by the fire.
