Police evacuate residents during Thursday morning fire at Gladstone assisted living home

GLADSTONE, MI— Michigan State Police from the Gladstone Post helped rescue residents at a Gladstone assisted living facility after a fire broke out early Thursday morning.

Around 4:15 a.m., Gladstone Public Safety officers responded to a fire at A New Dahn Rising on Delta Avenue and 13th Street. Responding troopers saw flames starting at the foundation and rising all the way up the building.

Officers observed a subject near the south-side door where the fire was burning and decided to enter the building. The caretaker said there were five people inside. Many were unable to walk without assistance.

All residents and the caretaker were evacuated without injury. Delta County Sheriff’s deputies assisted in getting the residents across the street as the fire engulfed the south side of the building.

Additional Public Safety officers and crews from the Escanaba Township Fire Department responded and began fire suppression.

The Red Cross assisted at the scene, as well.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Gladstone Public Safety.
