BARAGA COUNTY, MI— Baraga County’s Summit Lake Fire currently stands at 304 acres.
The U.S. Forest Service says the fire in the McCormick Wilderness is about 38-percent contained, and it continues to remain in its existing footprint. Firefighters have effectively secured the western and southwestern flanks of the fire and will continue to reinforce containment lines.
Officials say the fire will be tested by a warming trend from the south early this week, which will bring unseasonably warm temperatures and winds that will gust over 30 miles per hour.
The fire was discovered October 18. Its cause has not yet been determined.
