Fire claims Marinette County man's life

PORTERFIELD, WI— A Marinette County man died in a house fire last week.

Thursday around 4:20 p.m., Marinette County Dispatch was notified of a structure fire at W3457 Weidner Road in Porterfield. The Grover Porterfield Fire Department responded to the scene along with Marinette County Sheriff’s deputies.

During fire suppression efforts, firefighters conducted a search of the residence. They found one man and removed him from the house. He’s identified as 86-year-old Robert Crosslan.

Crosslan suffered fatal injuries that were later determined to be caused by the fire.

The incident remains under investigation by the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Assisting at the scene were the Peshtigo Fire Department, Wagner Fire Department, City of Marinette Fire Department, Wausaukee Fire Department, Pound Fire Department, Town of Lake Fire Department, the Mellen Township Fire Department, paramedics from Aurora-Bay Area, and Marinette ERS.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
