HOUGHTON, MI— An apartment fire Friday displaced 15 Michigan Tech students.
MTU Police Chief Brian Cadwell says the fire started just after 10 a.m. in building 2109 of the Daniell Heights complex on Woodmar Drive in Houghton. It was the only building lost in the incident. The roof was destroyed.
An adjacent building, number 2107, suffered only smoke damage. Students living there are expected to return after the building is deep-cleaned.
The 15 students from building 2109 have been permanently rehoused on campus.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Houghton Fire Department, Hancock Fire Department, Houghton City Police Department, and Houghton County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
