Manistique house considered total loss following fire

MANISTIQUE TOWNSHIP, MI— A Manistique Township home has been destroyed by fire.

The Manistique Public Safety Department was dispatched Wednesday around 9:24 p.m. to a house on River Road. The structure was fully engulfed when crews arrived.

The fire was under control within 40 minutes, but firefighters stayed at the scene until 12:20 a.m. because of hotspots created by the collapse of the roof.

All four of the home’s occupants were able to escape safely. No injuries were reported.

The residence is considered a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were the Manistique Volunteer Fire Department, Manistique EMS, Hiawatha Township Volunteer Fire Department, Thompson Township Volunteer Fire Department, Doyle Township Volunteer Fire Department, Sault Tribal Police Department, Michigan State Police, Cloverland Electric, and SEMCO Energy.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
