Radio Results Network

ESCANABA, MI— Fire has destroyed a restaurant in Escanaba.

The Escanaba Department of Public Safety was dispatched Monday around 1:20 p.m. to Mo’s Pub at 2116 Ludington Street on a report of a fire in the kitchen. Firefighters were met by heavy smoke and employees still inside. The employees were taken to safety.

Crews started suppression efforts, but the fire quickly spread to other parts of the building. It was several hours before the blaze was extinguished.

Fire departments from Ford River Township, Escanaba Township, Ensign Township, Bark River Township, Mellin Township, the City of Menominee, Iron Mountain, Nadeau Township, and Stephenson assisted at the scene.

Officers also battled outside temperatures in excess of 90 degrees. Public Safety says the additional manpower and apparatus were crucial in rotating personnel at the scene to avoid heat exhaustion.

Although the building continues to stand, the contents are a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Public Safety also thanks Delta County Central Dispatch, DTE, the Escanaba Electric Department, Escanaba Water Department, Delta County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Delta County Search and Rescue, the Red Cross, Rampart EMS, Ed Brunette Excavation, and all the local businesses that donated bottled water, Gatorade, and food and snacks to the firefighters on the scene. Officers say it was a true team effort by everyone involved.
