Thanksgiving fire destroys Sands Township home

SANDS TOWNSHIP, MI— A Marquette County family lost their home to fire on Thanksgiving Day.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at 11:15 p.m. to 21 Roses Ct. in Sands Township on a report of a structure fire.

Upon arrival, they confirmed all residents—a mother and her two sons—were out of the house. They were taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of injuries sustained in the fire.

Officials say the house is a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Michigan State Police, the Sands Township, Chocolay Township, Marquette Township, and Forsyth Township Fire Departments, UPHS-EMS, Sands Township EMS, Rescue 131, the Marquette Board of Light and Power, SEMCO Energy, the Marquette County Road Commission, and Marquette County Central Dispatch.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
