Basement in Escanaba house catches fire

ESCANBA, MI— An Escanaba home was damaged by fire Monday.

Around 2:53 p.m., the Department of Public Safety was dispatched to a basement fire at 1820 10th Avenue South. Upon arrival, officers could see flames on the basement ceiling.

The fire was quickly extinguished. Crews searched for remaining hot spots for about an hour.
No injuries were reported.

The fire remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
