Fire destroys Escanaba garage

ESCANABA, MI— Firefighters were able to get an Escanaba garage fire under control before it reached two propane tanks Wednesday.

Just before 7 a.m., the Escanaba Department of Public Safety was dispatched to 3142 18th Lane. Officers found the 40 x 60-foot structure fully involved. There was a second garage next to it, along with two large propane tanks.

The fire was quickly brought under control and eventually extinguished. Public Safety was on the scene for about 3.5 hours. The structure is a total loss.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Assisting in the incident were the Escanaba Township Fire Department, Rampart, Delta County Sheriff’s Office, Delta County Central Dispatch, and UPPCO.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
